Live at Kensington Town Hall, London, April 2000

The audio CD version of this performance was originally released in 2002 as a tribute to the mother of Kishori Amonkar, Smt Mogubai Kurdikar (1904 - 2001), under the same title, "Sampradaya Carrying Forward A Tradition" (NRCD 0151/152). The DVD of this same concert is now being released in two volumes, of which this is the first volume.

Mogubai dedicated her life to carrying forward the tradition of her guru till her last breath. Kishori Tai (as she is respectfully referred to) has continued forward the great Jaipur-Atrauli tradition of the legendary Ustad Alladiya Khan passed on to her through her mother and beyond that evolved her own musical approach which does not conform to a tradition by going back to the roots of this ancient music form. This DVD enables the viewer to witness the great legend that Kishori Amonkar is in live presentation which exemplifies her character and approach to music which is spiritual in its impact and rigorous in its content.
